FRONTIERS is a consortium that includes the Centre for Ethics in Science and Journalism (Italy), NOVA University of Lisbon (Portugal), Pompeu Fabra University (Spain) and Enspire Science (Israel). The project is supported by a 1.5 million € grant from the European Research Council (ERC).
Enspire Science
Enspire Science Ltd. is a leading project management, consulting, and training service provider in the field of EU-funded projects, with unique expertise in the ERC Funding scheme, supporting thousands of ERC applicants to date in the full spectrum of the scientific community. The company also has extensive experience in running and coordinating EU-funded projects for over 2 decades by now. As project coordinator, Enspire Science will lead the Project Management work package (WP1).
CESJ – Center for Ethics in Science and Journalism
The Center for Ethics in Science and Science Journalism (CESJ) is a non-profit organization launched in 2016 in Milan (Italy) to foster research, public debate and education activities – for both journalists and scientists – on science and science journalism and communication. In its first years of activity, CESJ focused on how to cover science-related issues, and especially controversies, in a responsible, ethical way. CESJ is directed by Fabio Turone, science journalist who in 2016-2017 was research fellow at the MIT Knight Science Journalism program in Boston, and scientific director Daniela Ovadia, who in addition to working in science journalism has been participating in several EU-funded projects and teaches “Ethics of research and responsible research and innovation” at University of Pavia. The Center has received funding among others from UNESCO and the EC Joint Research Center to organize summer schools and workshops on science journalism, and from Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo for a project on scientific citizenship.
NOVA University of Lisbon
Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, as public higher education institution funded in 1973, has as mission to serve the society at the local, regional and global level, through the progress and dissemination of knowledge and understanding between cultures, societies and people, by way of a teaching and research of excellence and of a provision of services based on a strong sense of community. NOVA is reponsible for WP5 – Dissemination and Communication.
Universidad Pompeu Fabra – Science, Communication and Society Studies Centre
Science, Communication and Society Studies Centre (SCS-UPF) is part of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). It aims at bringing closer together society and science by fostering scientific knowledge and culture, working for a better alignment between R+D+I and society’s needs and values. UPF is responsible for WP4 – Stakeholders’ training.
