The fourth and final call for applications to the FRONTIERS Science Journalism Residency Programme closed on 25 May 2026, receiving a record 60 applications from science journalists worldwide.
Applicants represented 27 nationalities and proposed residencies at research institutions across 22 European countries. The cohort includes 30 established, 21 mid-career, and 9 early-career journalists.
Across its four calls since 2023, the programme has now received a total of 171 applications covering a wide range of frontier research topics in science journalism.
Applications will now be evaluated by members of the FRONTIERS consortium and its Advisory Board. Results are expected to be announced in the coming months, with selected journalists beginning their residencies in autumn 2026.
The fourth call marks the final application round of the FRONTIERS Science Journalism Residency Programme, launched in 2023.
