Bárbara Novaes

Bárbara Bergamaschi Novaes (b. 1989, Brasília, Brazil) is a filmmaker and researcher. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature, Culture, and Contemporaneity from PUC-Rio (2022), funded by a CAPES scholarship. Between 2013 and 2017, she worked as an Assistant Director (AD/ADF) in documentaries and as a television producer for Canal Futura, contributing to projects broadcast on Canal Curta!, SporTV, TED, Turner, Cartoon Network, Canal Brasil, and EBC. From 2023 to 2025, she served as Science Communication Manager at ICNOVA–NOVA University of Lisbon and lectured Public Relations courses at NOVA-FHCS. As a film critic and scholar, she has contributed to O Estado de São PauloPúblicoRevista CinéticaLa Furia Umana, and indexed journals such as [In]TransitionJSTARCLInteractAnikiDOC-Online, and ARS. Her films have been screened at festivals in Brazil, India, France, and Portugal. She is currently a film programmer for the Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival, an OSCAR®-qualifying festival.
